The Dental Crown Process

Here’s what to expect when you get a crown at Spring Creek Dental:

• Consultation: We evaluate your tooth and explain your options.
  
• Preparation: The tooth is reshaped to fit the crown.
  
• Impression: We take a mold for a custom-made crown.
  
• Temporary Crown: A temporary cap protects your tooth while we craft the final one.
  
• Placement: Your final crown is fitted and adjusted for comfort.

Asking, “Can I get a same-day crown?” A crown procedure typically requires two appointments. Your first appointment at Spring Creek Dental will include taking multiple very accurate molds, or impressions. These impressions will be utilized to craft your custom crown. Your impression will also be used to make a temporary crown. The temporary crown will stay on your tooth for two to three weeks while your new crown is fabricated by a highly skilled dental laboratory.

After your tooth is numb, Dr. Kaines or Dr. Cosper will prepare the tooth by removing decay and shaping the surface so the crown will fit properly. Once this is complete, your temporary crown will be placed with temporary cement. Your dentist will check your bite to assure that you are biting comfortably and properly.

At your second appointment, your dentist will remove your temporary crown, clean your tooth, and place your new crown with careful attention to your bite and proper spacing.
